We're not going to wrap this up:
BE EXCEEDINGLY CAREFUL WHEN MAKING PURCHASES AT ASDA!
Our advice is: check every item's scanned price as it goes through the checkout!
One of our team had an experience on Sunday 28th September which highlights the value of this advice. He selected four items and knew that the bill should amount to £12.49. When his purchases had been scanned he was asked for a sum in excess of £14! On querying this, he discovered that an item boldly advertised as a £6 "rollback" had actually scanned at £7.77! An overcharge of £1.77!
When he visited "Customer Services" he noticed that the lady shopper in front of him who had used the self-scan checkouts had scanned an item priced at £1.69 and been charged £6.69! An overcharge of £5.00!
We are not being libellous here. The above can be easily substantiated.
Not for a moment are we suggesting that Asda is deliberately and blatantly overcharging its customers, but at best, the store is careless and negligent in its programming of the pricing system!
A huge majority of customers go through the checkouts and pay the requested sum unquestioningly. Consequently they are blissfully unaware of these built-in overcharges. In these days of rapidly rising prices, can you really afford to give a supermarket more than it should receive?
Like it or not, supermarkets are in a position of trust. We trust their infuriating scanning systems to charge us at advertised prices. Clearly, Asda is not deserving of this trust!
We will be talking to Trading Standards about this issue. Watch this space! In the meantime, check everything carefully when buying at Asda!
